Industry Department Seek Export Tax Changes

Association Optimistic about Chinese Market

The Indonesian Furniture and Handicraft Industry Association (Asmindo) plans to win China’s furniture and handicraft market following the implementation of the ASEAN – China free trade agreement this year. The ASEAN – China free trade agreement became effective January 1, 2010.

Members of Asmindo made this announcement because they no longer believe that the government was never serious about renegotiating the free trade, as they had asked.

Meanwhile, during the first quarter of this year, export value was over US$ 673.000 or up by 15 percent compared to the same period last year. The highest export value of US$ 14 million for furniture and handicraft happened was in 2004.

One of Asmindo’s effort in winning the Chinese market will be by participating in the "Shanghai International Furniture Exhibition" in Shanghai at the end of this May. Around 20 of Asmindo’s members will participate.
